Terry Long’s love affair with paint, color and form has led her on an exhilarating, artistic journey along many paths, spanning decades of artistry and success.

What started with painting on canvas, led her to discover new mediums and avenues to express creativity in a myriad of ways. Among a glowing list, Terry owned and managed two art galleries and worked as a visual merchandiser.

“My business frame of reference allowed me to take paint to new limits on wall surfaces in homes, commercial spaces and showrooms,” says Terry. Projects involved creating faux finishes, trompe l’oeil and murals, “crafting interiors with ambiance and attitude,” she says.

Her eclectic journey as an artist and entrepreneur has woven her through five Florida counties, including the arts and culturally diverse St. Lucie County, where Terry has taken up permanent residency.

“I looked for a long time and lived in several communities,” Terry says. “Fort Pierce is the right fit, everything’s just right! There is so much energy here, a place where all kinds of people find art as shared enjoyment, in many ways,” she adds.

As a volunteer curator for the St. Lucie Cultural Alliance, Terry sees first-hand the impact of bringing the arts community together to showcase the amazing talents of local artists, close to home, adding, “People are excited about turning the downtown into a true arts center.”

Topping the list of things Terry is thrilled about is the Alliance’s dedication to finding and providing venues for artists and helping grow the downtown’s Art Walk and Farmer’s Market into a virtual ‘artist alley’ to embrace.

“The Alliance is breathing life into the artist community and I can’t say enough about it and its leadership,” she says, touting its rapid membership boost, the launch of an online store, and sharing its new gallery space to showcase artist works.

“They have done so much in such a little time,” says Terry. “I truly believe they are going to build something amazing. It’s on its way – it’s unstoppable.”
