Brian Taylor, better known as Bezo, is a multi-talented artist. His paintings and drawings range from the small-scale intimacy of a tattoo to large stand-out murals. Brilliant color and bold form define his style.
It was as a teenager in Baltimore that his creativity and artistic abilities were recognized and encouraged. While in his twenties he worked in computer graphics for the local NBC news affiliate. There, and as a skateboarder, he connected with other artists, athletes and musicians. And it was in Baltimore that he learned the art of tattoo.
Bezo relocated to Fort Pierce from Baltimore 10 years ago. He had family and friends here and appreciated the similarities between both places – each town having a long history, the East Coast locations and the waterfronts. He also came here to raise his five children in a small-town environment. Then, too, the Treasure Coast was filled with opportunity. “All businesses need art, from logos to paintings,” notes Bezo. And he can fulfill all the artistic requirements to create a brand.
“At the age of 30 I left the corporate world to become an entrepreneur,” says Bezo. He has a home-based studio where he paints and uses a wall where he develops ideas for murals.
While some of Bezo’s canvases are on display at the St. Lucie Cultural Alliance gallery located at 111 Orange Avenue in downtown Fort Pierce, you likely have seen his artwork. The energetic sailfish rising out of the ocean on the side of Dollar Tree located on the corner of Georgia Avenue and U.S. 1 and the underwater scene embellishing the underpass of the FEC bridge on Avenue A, both in Fort Pierce, are striking examples. He also painted a mural of The Dragon Bridge in Da Nang, Vietnam in the Jensen Beach restaurant Pho 772.
Art and entrepreneurship are a family business for the Taylors. Bezo’s wife, Melanie Staton, is his PR representative and head of Blue Canary Agency. Melanie, who runs the business and promotion side of the art, also is involved in the local art organizations. The Agency literally is the parent company for all Bezo merchandise and affiliations. His children, whose creativity both parents encourage, make crafts and natural products that they sell online and at their pop-up stores. “Ours is a professional partnership that has created a successful personal and business relationship,” says Bezo. “Teamwork makes the dream work,” he quotes, referring to the book by John Maxwell who espouses that by working in a team you will fulfill your dreams.
Bezo joined the St. Lucie Cultural Alliance because it is the place to be for an artist. He explained, “In my conversations with other people, so many mentioned the St. Lucie Cultural Alliance. I knew I had to be part of this organization.” He also values the Alliance’s promotion of the arts.
