KEEP ART ALIVE. JOIN THE MOVEMENT.

Despite social distancing, we are committed to keeping the arts alive in our communities. We recognize that it is more important now than ever for our communities to stay inspired, engaged, and connected, and we are doing it through the arts. This fully digital indoor-only art movement, Keep Art Alive, uses indoor art activities of all disciplines to promote the arts and local artists during the COVID-19 disruption. This movement includes performing arts and visual arts content with DIY tips and tricks, lessons, tutorials, art trends, challenges, virtual tours, financial resources information to assist artists, teach aspiring artists and children, and inspire our communities as a whole.

We encourage everyone to get involved and explore new ways to use technology and fun and creative ideas on digital community-building as we lose some of our physical proximity. This movement is open to participants of all ages.

Stay connected and follow us on your favorite social media platform, @artstlucie. Also, subscribe to our newsletter at bit.ly/artstlucie-jointhemovent to be the first to learn of new releases and resources.

MUSIC ART EDITION

Music

Music, as described in the Webster dictionary, is the science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal relationships to produce a composition having unity and continuity. It may be vocal, instrumental, or mechanical sounds having rhythm, melody, or harmony.

Some simply describe it as life, because much like itself, music promotes harmony and unity. Music inspires!

Today, March 31, we harmoniously launch our indoor art movement, Keep Art Alive, to the beat of the music. We hope the inspiring cover of Count on Me lifts your spirit and inspires you to be there for a friend and our community during these difficult times.

And Remember...

Gallery, according to the Webster dictionary, is a room or building devoted to the exhibition of works of art. Nowhere did it say “physical” room. Because art gives us freedom and knows no quarantine. Thanks to many art galleries and museums across the world offering virtual tours, which we delightfully linked to this email, we get to keep our freedom.

In this edition of Keep Art Alive, we are highlighting Google’s Faces of Frida. In this collection, Google Arts and Culture take a closer look into the life, art and legacy of Frida Kahlo. #StayHome #WithArtstlucie and explore the collection.

SCULPTURE EDITION

Keep Art Alive Sculpture Edition

Sculpture, as describes in the Webster dictionary, is a three-dimensional work of art. This art discipline is diverse and may be accomplished by molding plastic or concrete, welding metal, and using fiberglass. Often, artists also chip stones or wood with a hammer and chisel to shape the artwork.

Similarly, life has multiple facades that mold and shape us. And like sculptures, we are all unique and made up of multitudes of characters. Life may sometimes be challenging, just as sculpting is a slow and precise process. However, it’s important to keep your eyes on the prize, a masterpiece, YOU.

#StayHome #WithArtstluie and enjoy the below free sculpting tutorial. It may not shape your life, but it will shape your sculpting skills.

LOCAL SCULPTOR

Hello, I’m Linda Fannin and I am the creator of LiliPolyClay. Lili pronounced [ lil-e ] like the flower, or like my beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who is always by my side as I craft, along with her little brother Ferdinand. I live in Port St. Lucie, FL, and have a passion for crafting. I began using polymer clay almost 20 years ago when I needed to make gifts for Christmas because money was tight.

Armed with a couple of large blocks of white Sculpey, rolling pin and cookie cutters I made Christmas ornaments for family and friends. Since then I have experimented with different clays, tools and techniques. Although I have explored all artistic mediums, in the end, I always come back to playing with clay! For many years I have been active in the polymer clay online community sharing in collaborations and challenges. My creations have always been swapped or given as gifts for birthdays and holidays. At the urging of friends and family, I decided to open an Etsy shop and share it with you all through my blog and YouTube channel. I hope you get as much pleasure and enjoyment from my craft as I have.

Today I would like to share a video tutorial with you, showing how to create a cute koala figurine.

ARTS AND CRAFTS

Did you know the use of Arts and Crafts has been around since the 18th century? According to the Webster dictionary, the adoption of arts and crafts was a movement in European and American design during the late 19th and early 20th centuries promoting handcraftsmanship over industrial mass production, but it was first used in 1888.

Today, arts and crafts exercises are widely used, from adults’ knitting to children’s papercrafts. Aside from being fun and creative, the art triggers the mind and installs a source of lifelong happiness in children and adults alike. Art helps to teach and develop the human mind with creativity, motor skills, confidence, visual learning, focus, decision making, perseverance, collaboration and more.

In this edition of Keep Art Alive, we’ve included arts and crafts resources for the whole family to learn and stay entertained. The featured video below will teach you how to create homemade healthcare face masks to protect yourself and loved ones from the health risks of COVID-19. More face mask tutorials

PHOTOGRAPHY EDITION

Photography, the art or process of producing images by the action of radiant energy and especially light on a sensitive surface, such as a film or an optical sensor, describes the webster dictionary.

However, photography is much more than that. It captures the good times and tells our stories. Without the art of photography, our life experiences are only distant memories. Although life may not always be picture-perfect, we choose the pictures we want to hold. Even when the view seems blurry and out of focus, hold on to your gears and keep photography alive.

In this edition of Keep Art Alive, we share plenty of resources that will help you do just that. You will learn indoor photography tips and show off your new-found skills for this edition’s challenge. Plus, watch the featured video for more tips on how to keep photography alive through the lens of photographers.

ARCHITECTURE DESIGN EDITION

Architecture, according to the webster dictionary, the art or practice of designing and building structures and especially habitable ones.

It is for many reasons we must keep art alive! It provides emotional and physical comfort. We don’t often stop to think about the role it plays in our lives. But look around, everything is by design. We are surrounded by art, and this includes our homes and all things in them.

It should not be a surprise that amid the COVID-19 healthcare crisis and increase demand for hospital space, architecture design is saving the day. Watch this quick featured video below to see how architects are contributing by designing hospitals made from shipping containers to help fight Coronavirus.

PAINTING EDITION

Painting, as describe in the Webster dictionary, is a work produced through the art of painting. However, paintings are not only products of painting but the product of the artists’ deepest thoughts and the observers’ feelings.

Painters express themselves through their work, and every brushstroke tells a story. In return, observers mesmerize on the artwork and, through their eyes, experience their own version of every story from every piece. In this edition of Keep Art Alive, we encourage you to tell your story most colorfully, express yourself through painting, and find yourself in paint!

Not a skilled painter? Not a problem! Watch the featured tutorial video below for tips and tricks to sharpen your skills and paint your story.

THEATER EDITION

Theater or theatre has multiple meanings in different parts of the world, and it may be a bit confusing, at times. Let’s clear it up once and for all with Grammar.com. The word theater is the preferred term in American English, and theatre is used in England, Europe, and mostly everywhere else in the world. Some Americans make distinctions that theater is a venue, like a movie theater, and theatre is the art form or a drama venue. For the sake of this email, let’s refer to the venues as theater and the art as play and acting and call it a scene.

As many of us are slowly and safely readjusting to the new normal, let’s not allow social distancing to break our characters. Your acting destiny is yours! Don’t let COVID-19 write your script for you. Join us in learning acting tips from LA Talent Manager, Wendy Alane Wright, from this edition’s highlighted video below to help us get in and stay in character.

HORTICULTURE EDITION

Horticulture, according to Webster, the science and art of growing fruits, vegetables, flowers, or ornamental plants. It originated from the Latin word hortus, which means garden, and translates to garden-i-culture and was first used in 1678.

Spring of 2020 feels more like fading flowers. However, as we prepare to return to life as we know it, this is the perfect edition to close our Keep Art Alive campaign as a reminder that the sun will shine again. Summer flowers will bloom, and together we will rebuild. Because life is much like perennials. Even when we’re down, keep calm and know that we will be up again.

Enjoy this edition’s featured video below and learn the basics of horticulture.
