Vote to bring live music to Port St. Lucie

PORT ST. LUCIE – The City of Port St. Lucie partnered with the St. Lucie Cultural Alliance (SCLA) and is now in the running for a grant to bring a 10-to-12-week live music series to Port St. Lucie during the summer of 2019.

Sponsored by the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a national foundation dedicated to strengthening the social fabric of America through free live music, the City of Port St. Lucie hopes to qualify as one of 15 winning organizations competing in the “Levitt AMP [Your City] Grant Awards.” City leaders are asking residents, their friends and family and the general public to cast their vote online to help bring the exciting program to Port St. Lucie.

The Levitt AMP [Your City] Grant Awards are a matching grant opportunity created by the Levitt Foundation to serve small to mid-sized towns and cities with populations up to 400,000. Up to 15 nonprofits will receive $25,000 each in matching funds to produce their own Levitt AMP Music Series—an outdoor, free concert series featuring a diverse lineup of professional musicians. This includes a minimum of 10 free outdoor concerts presented over 10 to 12 consecutive weeks during 2019.

Port St. Lucie has advanced to the nationwide competition of this selection process. The success of the Port St. Lucie’s application will depend on the community effort to get as many online votes as possible to bring the concert series to town. Community support, as measured by the number of online votes received, will be one of the key factors when the Levitt Foundation selects up to 15 winners. The Top 25 finalists will be selected through online public voting. The Levitt Foundation will then review the proposals of these 25 finalists and will select up to 15 Levitt AMP winners.

Supporters are encouraged to register and vote for Port St. Lucie’s proposed concert series. Online public voting begins November 1 and ends November 20, 2018. The Top 25 finalists will be selected through online public voting. The Levitt Foundation will then review the proposals of these 25 finalists and will select up to 15 Levitt AMP winners, which will be announced on December 18, 2018.

Through the Civic Center Department, the City launched its pilot live music series, the Free Friday Concert Series, in July 2018. The City’s first concert event supported more than 500 attendees and subsequent concerts reached an audience of almost 1,000. With the Levitt AMP [Your City] Grant, this audience can be expanded and move Port St. Lucie closer to its vision of a city for all people by providing diverse music genres that appeal to different socio-economic backgrounds.

The City of Port St. Lucie is proud to be a hometown where people live, learn, work and play, and celebrate all of life’s opportunities.
