Description
The Manatee Center is a 2,000 square-foot environmental education center that contains fresh and salt water aquaria, a touch tank, interactive displays, and other interactive living and non-living exhibits. Photos below help to give an overview of our exhibits, but nothing compares to the experience of viewing and interacting with these tanks and critters for yourself.
The Manatee Observation and Education Center opened its doors on November 1, 1996, just in time for Manatee Awareness month. Since its opening, over 1,000,000 visitors have enjoyed all that MOEC has to offer for children and families, with accessible opportunities to learn how life on land connects to the water.
Once construction was completed in 1996, administrative oversight of MOEC was transferred to publicly-owned Fort Pierce Utilities Authority who continues to shepherd the Center today, by funding the curator's position. This vital support allows MOEC to focus on what's important - delivering exceptional experiences for children and families of the importance of our natural environment and how we humans can work together to sustain our fragile habitats today and for the future.
