Sculpting the Human Head

$400.00This class taught by Eduardo Gomez is a step-by-step demonstration of the techniques involved in sculpting the human head in clay. The class will cover the basic anatomy of the head and its anatomical proportions. It will also cover anatomical issues related to aging and race and facial expressions. Students will learn how to use the shape and the planes of the face to obtain a general likeness and study different ways of modeling the individual parts of the head from the nose, lips, ears and eyes, etc. Surface finishing techniques will be covered. Basic aesthetic issues involved in designing a bust sculpture will be covered as well as how to prepare it for firing or molding along with different mounting options.
The course includes 25 pounds of clay, one bisque firing, the cost of the live model, and use of an armature and all the tools needed to sculpt the portrait. This class is for all levels and meets 6 times. During the first two classes, students concentrate on forming the basic structure from a skull model and the following 4 sessions there will be a live model.
