This is a fabulous opportunity to visit the Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach and create an inspirational lantern back at Treasure Coast Pottery the following week.
Participants will have a walking tour of the Japanese Gardens with a docent and Sharon Elkind, who is knowledgeable in Japanese culture. We will view at the lanterns and bonsais, and artwork to inspire us to compositionally create lanterns in the hand-building class. We will learn how to use the Extruder to create our Japanese-inspired lanterns. The second class meets Monday, Feb 5th at 2 pm to create lanterns.
Bonsai pot workshop will be scheduled for a later to be determined.
The logistics are as follows: We meet at the studio at 10 am. Drive to the Museum. The walking tour will commence when we arrive, by 12 pm at the latest. Tour is approximately an hour (about a mile). We are carpooling and have three drivers who can take passengers, and we will coordinate drivers with passengers once registration is complete. Of course, you may drive yourself if that is your preference.
Museum Visit & Workshop includes carpooling transportation, admission, Museum docent, clay for a medium-sized lantern in the 12-inch height range.
Participants build their lanterns utilizing the extruder and the slab roller. The class will be about 3 hours.
Your pieces will be glazed with your choice of dipping glaze and ready approximately three weeks after the class.
